Today, we are discussing books that we just didn’t understand the hype about. We dipped our toes in and then ran screaming back to the shore. These are the books that perhaps we didn’t finish, or struggled through. I am hosting this topic on the Valentines blog hop. Make sure you check out the other posts.
Sometimes, a reader just doesn’t connect with a book and that is OKAY. Every book can’t appeal to everyone. It might be the writing style or the events in the book. Sometimes, the problem is that we can’t identify with the characters, so we don’t care so much about their journey.
It seems like I am the only one who didn’t like Commonwealth by Ann Patchett. I love the premise of the book and I wanted to enjoy it as people have recommended the author to me. I struggled through the whole thing and I admire the way the story unfolded. The author is definitely talented. But I just couldn’t feel anything for these characters.

50 Shades of ANYTHING. I just do NOT like this series. It has NOTHING to do with the BDSM. It is poorly written. The entire plot is a cliche (or trope). The main relationship doesn’t work for me. First it’s insta-love on one side. The writer has zero imagination for dialog. Now I can get through the one’s told from HIS perspective, but I definitely don’t like this series.

Everyone seems to love Sarah J Mass’s A Court of Thorns and Roses series, but I just could not get into it. I love a good fantasy series and I was actually super excited about this one. I ended up DNFing book one after struggling through the first 25%. I do have some of her Throne of Glass books on my Kindle to give a try though.
