Bookish Blog Hop: What Are You Currently Reading?

I am part of a group where book bloggers support each other and the hard work we put into our sites. The Bookish Blog Hops group now has a new logo and will also be organising daily support threads too. All book bloggers are welcome to join our Facebook group if you haven’t already to be part of the fun.

In October, the Bookish Blog Hop is Halloween themed. Each day, a blogger will host a question and the other book bloggers give their answers. You can comment on as many or as few as you wish.

Today, I am hosting the post:

#6 What are you currently reading?

At the moment, I am just starting The Outcasts of Time, by Ian Mortimer.

December 1348. With the country in the grip of the Black Death, brothers John and William fear that they will shortly die and go to Hell. But as the end draws near, they are given an unexpected choice: either to go home and spend their last six days in their familiar world, or to search for salvation across the forthcoming centuries – living each one of their remaining days ninety-nine years after the last.

I am enjoying it so far. It has a lot of interesting historical details.

Here is what the other book bloggers had to say:

Jo Linsdell www.JoLinsdell.com

I’m currently reading the 3rd book in the Percy Jackson series, Percy Jackson and the Titan’s Curse. I loved the first two books in this series and so far I’m enjoying this one too.

About the book:

It’s not every day you find yourself in combat with a half-lion, half-human. But when you’re the son of a Greek god, it happens. And now my friend Annabeth is missing, a goddess is in chains and only five half-blood heroes can join the quest to defeat the doomsday monster. Oh, and guess what. The Oracle has predicted that not all of us will survive…

Currently I have a big ol’ stack of books on the shelf of my nightstand, and only a few more days until they come due–let’s hope I can renew them, and no one else has placed holds on them so I don’t have to return them un-read! Currently it’s A Sliver of Stardust by Marissa Burt. I came across her at random, particularly her duology Storybound and Story’s End, two absolutely magical tales about a world where the heroes and villains are prescribed their roles and have to take classes that pertain to their assignments–but not all heroes have noble dispositions, and not all villains actually want to be evil. I loved it, so naturally when I saw that she had another series out, I got all excited! I haven’t gotten more than halfway into it, but I’m enjoying it so far! I’m also reading what will be my 100th featured “Reader’s Review” on my blog. It’s actually a debut novel by a friend of mine, Painter Place by Pamela Poole. Lots of fun!

My current read is actually 3 books. I just borrowed the original Ghost in the Shell graphic novels from my dad, the big collections. I have to work my way through those so I can return them.

From what I’ve read thus far, I’m really enjoying them. I’ve seen both movies as well and enjoyed the animated one far more than the live-action. I liked that the animated one never got into pasts or back stories. People just were and you picked up tidbits as you watched. The point of the movie was to tell a story about the people now, moving forward, not the people looking back trying to figure out where they came from.

That’s a huge part of the books too, you sort of feel like you’ve been dropped into the middle of a very tense political situation in a world you’re not completely familiar with and you’re left picking up pieces as you read. Oh, and Major has a lot more sass and snark in the books than she did in either movie.

I’m currently doing a book binge! I think I have about four or five books on the go at the moment… It’s that time of the year where I start packing in as many books as I can to complete all those reading challenges I foolishly signed up for in January! Right now the one I’m most enjoying is A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackensi Lee. I’m listening to the audiobook, and whilst the writing itself is hilarious and brilliant, the narrator makes the whole thing ten times better! I’m loving the interactions between Percy and Monty, I just want to squish them, they are so adorable! And of course, Felicity is one of the most kick ass Victorian ladies I have ever known.

I am actually reading the sequel to the best haunted house book I ever read. It scared the CRAP out of me the first time and I TOTALLY did not see the plot twist coming. As an avid mystery/thriller/horror reader that is always a good thing with me. I liked the characters from the first book, so I wanted to try the second.  The book is called “In the Still of the Night” by David Goleman. Since I am still reading it. (I literally started yesterday 🙂 )I can’t offer a summary but here is what Amazon says:

Five years ago, the ghost-hunting Supernaturals disbanded after being accused of faking their footage of the haunting at Summer Place. Now, the eccentric, but brilliant, team of scientists and paranormal experts are being asked to join forces once again― this time to save the President. Through strenuous investigation and mysterious messages about returning home, the team soon discovers the long lost home of the president: a small town in California called Moreno, a modern ghost town. When the Supernaturals go to Moreno for answers, they find a presence; something came to Moreno after WWII, something that’s still locked in a steel vault in the basement of the town’s old movie theater. To make matters worse, the thing in the basement is starting to pull them into its time, Halloween of 1963. With the body count rising, it’ll be up to the Supernaturals to find an explanation for what this paranormal being is and how to defeat it.

What are you currently reading? Have you read any of these?
