It’s Alive!

Hi writers, bloggers, and readers. Today is release day for my latest witchy fiction novella, Boundless Magic. If this book was a baby, then I had one of the worst births ever.

I’ve had a really tough few months, with my own health and my family’s health too. So much for 2021 being the cure-all for the shit storm that was 2020!

The first book got some great reviews. Most readers seemed to ‘get’ the characters, and they wanted more. They liked the coziness, the witchy family vibes, and the slow-burn romance.

I aimed to get my sequel out a few months after the first book, but that didn’t happen. And I started to second-guess myself. Readers don’t want to wait months to see what happens, all the articles said. Make sure you are someone the readers can trust. Get your sequel out quickly.

The hot summer passed in a blur of blue sea and golden sand, Christmas passed, and New Year, and Waitangi Day. I wrote, but it was never enough words, never good enough. I’ve really had to evaluate the pressure I put on myself, and try to take things a day at a time. One day. At a time.

Slowly, line by painstaking line, I wrote the book. I even wrote some of the next book. They say that it gets easier, the more you write. I’ll let you know when (if) that happens for me.

It is tough when you can’t be the mum, the wife, the author, the freelancer who you want to be. You feel like you’re always letting people down. I’m still learning to bring those expectations back into small, manageable steps.

Anyway, I finished the book. It is available via Amazon right now, but will be in paperback soon.

Stacey Broadbent, a fellow NZ author, was kind enough to interview me on her blog. Have a read if you’d like to find out who I would like to play the characters in my books if they were going to be made into a movie (#lifegoals).

  1. “One day. At a time.” is literally my blog’s tagline for the very reasons you outline in this post. You just need to breathe and do what you can.
I’m sorry to hear that you had some health issues you and your family struggled with but I hope all is better now. Kudos on finally getting that book out!
I am checking out the interview and links next.

  2. Thanks for your comment 🙂 I’m slowly learning to adjust. How is your writing going?
